Itinerary

Meet your departing coach at a central meeting point in Dublin, and  then climb on board and find a comfortable seat for the journey to the Boyne Valley. As your guide takes care of the navigation, you're free to focus on the scenic drive through County of Meath.

Stop at the Hill of Tara, where your guide goes into detail about the political and spiritual history of this place. As you explore the ancient monuments for yourself, learn about the hill's history from the Stone Age through the 19th century.

Newgrange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is your next stop. Disembark and follow your guide into the cairn and take a tour of the passage tomb, filled with Neolithic stone carvings and basins, once sacred receptacles for human remains. Your guide explains the ancient site and its uses throughout ancient history.

The journey back to Dublin stops in the quaint seaside village of Howth, which features views of Dublin Bay and some Viking-era monuments.

After getting an overview of the Boyne Valley, along with its longstanding history, return to Dublin for drop-off at your original departure location.

Great historical detail

Mary Gibbons gave extensive background even just leaving Dublin. I doubt there is a better tour. Both sites were so interesting, feel the connections to those ancient peoples. Plenty of time at each site to explore.

No, the coaches Gray Line use generally do not have coaches, but they do make pit stops at Howth going (just outside Dublin) and a service station midway into the drive both ways.
