About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 29150 contributionsAn excellent choiceMy sister and I toured Scotland in September, 2023 and one of our stops was Inverness. We chose not to rent a car and drive so she picked out this tour and not really knowing about the area we were not disappointed. It was guided by William in a kilt which was a nice touch which also gave you a taste of his clan loyalty. We traveled in a comfortable 8 seater van which made the trip much more intimate. The itinerary was interesting. The view of the Dunrobin Castle from the garden level is unforgettable. At the last stop at the Glenmorangie Distillery we were gathered to taste of wee dram of distilled Scotch (which I passed on) and William (Bill) treated us to some of his wife’s, Mary, homemade shortbread. Such a generous personal gesture❗️Written November 30, 2023

Weather was in our favor and we had great stops along with beautiful scenery at Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Portree, Bride's Veil Falls, faerie pools, & more. Niall was so knowledgeable and full of interesting & entertaining stories all along the way. I highly recommend this tour and tour operator, as this was my second experience with Happy Tours and I was indeed very happy both times. I will book again next trip!Written November 2, 2023
- 659kirstens0 contributionsGreat Tour to Isle of Sky with Drew!My sister and I did the Isle of Sky tour with Drew as our driver and tour guide. He was a great driver and shared interesting history along the way, a very nice local man he gave us some local context and the tour felt authentic, not contrived. We had a really nice day, saw a lot of the beautiful Highlands, learned a lot, and with a good lunch stop in Portree. Thank you Drew! Also a shoutout to Cameron who helped us book the tour last minute (after a different party cancelled) - he was very helpful and also quite funny and we shared some hearty laughter - good job keeping it fun! I would happily do another Happy Tours tour without hesitation!Written November 1, 2023

- c w0 contributionsSlightly disappointedWell informed driver but he was monopolized by the 2 passengers in the front seat with him. His projection of fog caused him to skip 2 major stops at Five Sisters and Old Man. Should have resulted in more time to see Portree and have lunch but lunch wait was 45 minutes and we were directed to be back on the bus in 60 minutes from drop off. Should have taken a ham sandwich and seen the town. Was really looking forward to seeing Portree but maybe next time.Written October 23, 2023
- Meander7939820 contributionsTerrible ToursAbsolutely the worst tour company. DO NOT BOOK VIA THEIR SITE! They have multiple cancellation policies for different sites and was not accommodating when we’re unable to make it to Inverness due to storm Babbet! Happy Tours care more about scamming customers than creating ‘happy’ memories. Ruined our UK trip!Written October 21, 2023

Ever since I read the books 15 years ago and watched Outlander on TV I wanted to do an authentic tour of Culloden battlefield. As soon as plans were laid to travel from Australia I booked and paid for this tour direct with the company as a single person 2 months in advance as I wanted to hear the stories from someone who knows the history. I paid upfront. Zoom to the day before the tour. I received a confirmation email from them the morning before the trip. Then, that night before the trip, Happy Tours contacted me by email and said they'd overbooked and they had bumped me off. They said they'd been trying to contact me for two days - but not according to my phone records where I can see they tried twice at 18.14 and 18.27 the night before. The only email I'd received earlier that day was their confirmation one. They offered me a completely different tour of the canals and in which I had already seen. and held no further interest. I'd have booked that tour in the first place if I wanted to see it through them. Clearly even though I'd booked and paid months in advance they bumped me for later bookings as there was full availability when I booked directly with them. They offered me the next day but Travellers simply don't have optional free days. I can't see myself returning to Inverness as its so far from Australia. Happy Tours used the reason that Airbnb didn't keep my details but Id booked directly with Happy Tours so that makes no sense. I'm so very disappointed right now.

We once again apologise for the confusion over your booking for Loch Ness. As we personally told you and your husband, we made a human error when you booked the other tour through Viator and then cancelled one person, then another. We thought you were cancelling this tour too. Only on the evening when we checked did we notice our error and saw the direct booking was still there.
Many many guests have been booked in advance and as you were the most recent single traveller booked we had to cancel you and offer alternatives both for the day booked on , or the next day.
We once again apologise sincerely for the error we made.

This has been one of our favorite tours on our trip so far!! Our family of five took up most of the 8-seater van, but we had a lovely time meeting three new people! Our tour guide, Craig, was the best we’ve had this trip. He filled the drive with history of Scotland plus amusing anecdotes about the area and buildings around us. He was so excited to share his love of this country with us while making sure we knew about the history as well. He went out of his way to make sure we snapped all of the pictures that we wanted and even took the camera so we could have some family shots as well.
We only spent a few minutes at Loch Ness, but it was enough to experience it and get some beautiful pictures. Craig took us by a local farm so we could meet some Heilan Coos and buy some locally made jam, and then onto Beauly Priory for lunch and a wander around town. When we stopped at the Singleton Distillery, he helped the staff choose our tasting as he had gotten an idea of what we would like by that time. His tour of the Culloden battlefield was impressive and really helped illuminate the history of that location. Clava Cairns was our last stop, and he seemed to enjoy the visit there as much as we did!
Keeping a three teenagers engaged in a day long tour isn’t easy, but this one made it happen! I highly recommend it!!

A really enjoyable tour. It was our first time to the Highlands, the tour covers a lot of ground and gives you the appetite to see more.
Craig is a great host, a very proud Scot who is very engaging, and easy to talk to. Culloden is where Craig really shines, he brings the history of events to life in so much detail.
Overall, an excellent tour with a perfect host. Many thanks for a super day.

Morven was a phenomenal tour guide for our day trip to Loch Ness, Beauly Priory, Glen Ord Distillery, the Culloden Battlefield, and Clava Cairns. Our group of four friends was just coming off of a weekend trip from the northwest in Scotland, and it wound up being a great decision to spend one night in Inverness and take the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas there before heading back to Edinburgh. The van in which we travelled was extremely comfortable, and the whole day went so smoothly. Morven was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, attentive, and she went out of her way to make sure we had a special experience. She also took care to make sure we made our 17.27 train, for which we were grateful! I cannot emphasise enough that if you have the time to do this tour, you absolutely should.

I took three different tours with Happy Tours and got to experience three different guides as well. The combination of this tour with Niall was my absolute favorite. The tour stays relatively local so there's not too much time in the van between well chosen stops. But Niall really made it. Each of the three tours I took basically started off the same, so it was easy to judge across the three guides.
Niall's a gifted storyteller weaving historical fact and outright nonsense into a spectacular experience. I may remember more of fairies and giants then the battlefield, but that's part of the fun of a trip to the Highlands. I recommend this tour above the other options I sampled from Happy Tours, and if you're lucky enough to get Niall you're in for a treat.

Thank you Brian for doing three tours with Happy Tours. We really appreciate that.
We are very "happy" you enjoyed the more local tour with Niall so much. The tour is packed full of things to see and do and with a guide like Niall you can't go wrong. Our other tours offer different settings and it all comes down to a matter of personal taste which you feel is the best.
Happy onwards travelling.

Our guide on the day, Bill was also exceptional. Full of information, full of life and passion for his country and history. Had a great day and one that I will never forget. Thankyou!

Our family had an interesting day seeing different famous sights. At the Urqhuart castle, we bought tickets and went inside the castle to take pictures. The movie there was also well made.
At Beauly we saw the burned down church and heard the story of Mary queen of scots. There were some graves that were 500 years old. There was a lunch stop and our family chose to eat at the hotel. The lunch deal was popular with everybody. The apple pie with warm custard was lovely.
The battlefield was sad but also a place of interest. Finally we went to Clava Cairns, a peaceful and ancient place of standing rocks. We hadnt seen Outlander but now maybe we will.
Stuart was our guide and kept the day interesting with stories. Also the bus was comfortable.
For a short visit to Inverness this was a nice way to see several spots at once.

Our guide Stuart was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable about the areas. The van was clean and comfortable. Despite the rainy day, Stuart managed to keep us all entertained and made minor adjustments in the schedule to try and get us indoors when it was raining and outdoors when it was drier. Thanks for an amazing tour! I highly recommend them!

1. Ease of Pickup and Drop Off
Pick up in front of the Columba Hotel on 7 Ness Walk, a side street before the Grigg Street Bridge. This tour begins at 9:00 am, and ends at 5:00 - 5:30 pm depending on the traffic and weather.
2. Great Tour Guide
William was an excellent tour guide. He was knowledgable in providing an overview of the history of the Scottish from the Picts through the Scottish civil war. He is passionate about history, and it shows. The weather was absolute misery due to heavy, heavy rain, and he kept everyone's spirits up with his enthusiasm, and of course Happy Tour umbrellas.
3. Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, and the Cairns
Loch Ness is absolutely immense, and the Highlands are a gorgeous mix of treeless mountains, beautiful waterfalls and rivers, along a topography with exposed granite and heather. We toured Urquhart Castle, which has standing structures right on Loch Ness despite being blown to bits by the Grant Clan who strategically abandoned it. Culloden Battlefield is where the British government and the Jacobites fought a battle where the British wiped out the Jacobites in about 45 minutes. There are stone markers for the mass graves of Jacobite forces by clan name. The weather was miserable, but William's enthusiasm kept us going. The Cairns is an ancient people's circular, geometric stone piles that correspond to other worship spaces of this kind. Remarkable the ability to quarry, transport, and order them in the pattern.

The highlight of our tour, after the amazing sights of the Highlands of course, was undoubtedly our guide, Bill McDonald. Fantastic!
The sights were beyond beautiful but Bill's knowledge of history, coupled with his obvious passion for Scotland and the Highlands, made this a most memorable tour.
The 8-seater van was comfortable and we were glad to be in a small group rather than a giant tour bus. It felt more like a family road trip. We packed in a lot of sights and the 8-hour day just flew by.
From Loch Ness to Beauly, Castles to Clava Cairns, Whiskey to Culloden - just a wonderful, powerful tour.

Hi, We are a group of 8 adults arriving in Invergordon on a Viking Cruise ship on June 6. We are interested in this trip. Can it be slightly modified to ensure we are back to the ship which departs at 4.30pm?

Yes this tour has a two hour stop at Culloden Battlefield where your guide will give you the full history of the battle and all the surrounding landscapes. You will really enjoy it here

How far is the meeting place from the Cruise Dock?

This tour is a daily tour scheduled from Inverness , not a tour from the Port of Invergordon. You will find all the information on our tours available from the Port of Invergordon over on our Happy Tours Scotland website. Happy to help further if you don't see the information you require there.

Just wondering if there would be somewhere to buy lunch or would we need to bring it with us ? Looking to do a tour in September. Thanks

There is definitely somewhere to buy lunch. We really don't want our guests to starve!
Hope to see you in September, regards Cameron
