Overview

See the rivers, lochs, and mountains of the Scottish Highlands during this two-day tour from Edinburgh. Leave the driving to your guide and take in the scenery as you journey to top landmarks in the region including Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle, and Inverness. Taste Scotland’s famous whisky at Tomatin Distillery and visit the Highland Folk Museum before driving back to Edinburgh.

What to Expect
Day 1
We depart from Edinburgh at 0900 and travel towards Loch Lomond, stopping in the Highland village of Luss on the 'bonnie bonnie banks' of Loch Lomond. We continue our journey into the atmospheric expanse of Rannoch Moor, passing the Black Mount to dramatic Glencoe, site of the 1692 massacre of the MacDonald Clan. Take a leisurely walk soaking in the atmosphere of this haunting glen before continuing north towards Fort William and Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.

After lunch, we trace the 24 mile shoreline of Loch Ness, passing Urquhart Castle, where we reach our final stop of the day, Inverness, and check in to our accommodation.

Day 2
Today we have a flexible itinerary. You may choose to visit Culloden Battlefield (optional extra), where Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites were defeated. You may wish to visit the Neolithic Clava Cairns, a prehistoric burial site dating back 4000 years. You may also choose to visit Tomatin Distillery, a Highland distillery producing single-malt whisky, or 'waters of life'. We then begin our return journey to Edinburgh via the old Military Garrison of Ruthven Barracks, and the Highland Folk Museum. We stop in the charming village of Pitlochry for refreshments, before we cross the Forth Road Bridge back to Edinburgh.
