      Super funny and Great information
Your guide was one of the greatest I’ve ever had. Super nice and funny guy. If he gets any bad reviews it because classmates didn’t want to go on the tour and were forced to go by the professor. He knows the area well and played traditional music throughout the ride. Would give 6 stars if I could.

      Amazing Highlands tour
We had a lovely day-trip to the highlands with our guide Ryan. It was definitely the highlight of our Edinburgh-based trip. We had a small group and due to that we ware able to make more stops for photos. Ryan had so much knowledge on history, music, the flora and fauna, about the whiskys and geology around us. We had a lovely time, learned a lot and would love to do this again. Thanks so much!

The views were amazing, but the time we spent in the Loch Ness is too short, less than two hours, also is pitchlory we only spent 20 minutes, we recommend to spent more time in the Loch Ness. The lunch is a sandwich is not very good and the tour gives no time to lunch in loch ness

This was a great time of year to take this trip because the weather made you feel as though you were in the show. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had great storytelling. The soundtrack was a highlight for us as well.

It was a rallye nice experience! We have seen a lot of Scotland on that one day. There were many incredible Views. The Lunch was also very delicious. You got to choose out of 3 sandwich options. I chose cheese chutney which I can recomment. The Guide Connor was very friendly and it was really pleasant to listen to his information and stories!

      Great storytelling, beautiful places
Good itinerary for a one-day trip to the highlands (for a first-timer). Beautiful views and I had enough time at the Loch Ness stop to get myself some quality time high up in the snow. I was especially delightful by how our guide Connor proved a master storyteller - lots of humor, history and insider tidbits. Highly recommended!

Our Driver/guide (Catelynn) for the three day trip made it the whole difference...

Most of us know the beauty of Highland and it's breathtaking views, adding Catelynn story about the place with history made it cherishing.

We five family with kids travelled together, our stay was arranged in 'The Sky in' it was a pleasant stay with yummy breakfast, kitchen staff made sure our kids demands are met with trailor made food.

Driving skill exhibited by Catelynn was amazing and she made sure we didn't miss any location or views.

During the travell we lissend to very few song, we that much enjoyed the giant and fairy tale stories mixed with history narrated by our guide.

We were picked up on time and dropped in at end of tour on time.

Scott is the one with whom I was in touch with for booking our private tour, he responded to all our emails and queries very promptly. He made sure all our demands are passed on and met.

Looking forward to travel with Highlandexplorer tours again.

I had the most marvelous time on this tour. First of all, Martin was an INCREDIBLE guide. He was lovely, caring, gentle, and his voice was so soothing that made me relaxed, enjoying the tour even more. I was afraid our guide would have a really strong Scottish accent. However Martin’s accent was really comprehensible and easy to catch. On top of that, he made the tour fun and entertaining by telling us about Scottish history and fairy tales all along the way, plus taking us to places that were for sure out of the planned itinerary. The bus ride was accompanied by traditional Scottish music, and I was lucky enough to be placed with a lovely group of people who were around my own age. Overall, the experience was great, and Skye is a MUST DO if you are going to visit the Highlands. Me and the youngest people stayed at a Youth Hostel in Portree, which was perfectly located, clean and had a kitchen to prepare your own breakfast at least (it comes in handy when you are travelling in a low budget, cause restaurants in Skye are terribly expensive). The days were long on this tour but our guide made sure we got to see all of the most beautiful places (except for the Fairy Pools unfortunately, which they do say it is not a planned stop)

There are some cons that I want to highlight about this tour in particular (not at all the guide’s fault):

    1. First day is all about getting to Skye. The bus basically makes no stops, except for just a few, cause priority is to make it to the ferry that will take you to the island. That said: we could not stop at Glenfinnan Viaduct. The bus does not stop if the parking lot is full which is VERY likely to happen, so don’t get your expectations too high about this. Some people had booked tickets for the Steam Train and since the train got cancelled, they were told that it would be replaced by additional stops, which did not happen.

    2. Before arriving to Portree, you are offered a menu for dinner. They don’t tell you the price in advance, but it is actually 30 pounds for good dinner, but nothing that justifies paying that much.

    3. Another thing they do not tell you is that you need to book a restaurant in Portree cause of you try to improvise for second night dinner, you will end up eating anything but Scottish food. All restaurants have to be booked in advance.

Anyways, I absolutely recommend this tour. If Martin is your guide, you are in for a treat!

Hi there, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed response about your time on tour with us. Firstly, thank you for saying such kind words about our wonderful driver/guide Martin! We agree that he is a an expert when it comes to storytelling/ driving the bus on the Highland roads and overall being so passionate about Scotland. We will be sure to pass on your kind words to him :) We completely appreciate that on the first day of the tour, there is a lot of driving and time spent on the bus. Due to the vast distance that has to be covered and certain timings that we must meet such as the ferry over to Skye, we are unable to stop at as many locations as we would like to. Moreover, we understand the cancellation of the Steam Train was disappointing for many customers and we sincerely apologise on behalf of West Coast Railways for this. Stopping at the Viaduct cannot be guaranteed due to parking restrictions and we do stipulate this upon boking, but we do nevertheless apologise that you were unable to stop here on your tour. We do appreciate your feedback and thank you for your honesty. With regards to meals in Portree, we understand that prices can seem expensive for what you get. This is merely because of the high demand for tourism that these areas have which means that their prices must reflect this. On top of this, we know that getting a reservation in smaller towns can be difficult and apologise if you were unable to do so. Despite this, we hope that you enjoyed both of your evenings in Portree. If you do wish to discuss any of these matters further, we urge you to contact us directly via email. Very best wishes for the future. Rhi

We were a little sceptical about booking a group tour with the current covid situation but our worries quickly disappeared. Temperature checks were taken before getting on board, there was plenty of room to spread out and distancing on the bus wasn’t a problem with such a small group, hand sanitizer was available and everyone was really respectful about keeping their face masks on while on the bus. Our tour guide Dougie was great and he really knew his stuff. Would highly recommend!

We just got back from an absolutely fantastic three day trip to the Isle of Skye, via the Scottish Highlands. I would say that if you are planning to visit Scotland, a tour like this is a must! The days were jam packed with activity and they really manage to cram everything in - from mountains to lakes to valleys, you really do see it all. Our guide, Owen, was funny and super informative and we enjoyed a relaxed dinner with him and the other guests on the first night on the Isle. He seemed to have a never ending supply of fascinating stories, and it was great to listen to them while peering out at the incredible landscapes. The Isle of Skye itself is like another planet! Just so, so beautiful. The only one thing I would say is that because the nature of this tour is to cram as much in as possible, sometimes it meant we missed out on certain things - for example, I would have loved to have hiked up to the Old Man of Storr rather than view it from the bottom of the valley, but we simply did not have time! Oh well - just means I will have to go back. The accommodation was fantastic, so clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious!! Great vegan options. What a weekend!! I will never forget it.

I went on a 3 day tour to Scotland's Highlands and had a great time. There were some dull moments but overall the whole experience was amazing and I got to see some unbelievable landscapes. I was also extremely lucky with the weather as the first two days were really sunny. It was still very cold, mind you (this was late November after all) but it really made a difference. The accommodation, which was included, was fine.

Our guide, Tom, was also great. He was very friendly and despite not being very experienced I really enjoyed listening to his stories and tales about Scotland and found them quite interesting and entertaining.

Sophie was a brilliant tour guide- sharing stories about the landmarks and towns we visited, very knowledgeable and a great sense of humour! I loved learning about the history and tales as we drove. Sophie made adjustments to the itinerary depending on daylight and weather/road conditions to ensure we got to all of the spots over the three days which was wonderful, she really went above and beyond. The highlands and Isle of Skye has so many beautiful spots and we were able to squeeze in so many! Old man of Storr, Fairy Glen, Lealt falls, Kilt Rock, Glencoe, Loch Ness and Fort Augustus to name a few. The bus was spacious and comfortable, as was the accomodation at the Skye Inn. Thank you Sophie for a fabulous tour! All that was missing was a highland coo and a Nessie sighting!

Dear 485marlenah, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed, 5* review of your 3-day tour to Skye with Sophie. We are delighted to read that you had such an enjoyable time, despite the wee complications that we ran into with the weather conditions. So glad to read that Sophie didn't let that stop her and that she was still able to deliver such a great and memorable tour! We do hope you will decide to join us on another one of our tours in the future, and do remind us and we will try and take a detour to see some coos...can't quite guarantee a Nessie sighting though, she's awfully shy. Kind regards, Ayla

There was heavy snow resulting in road closures along the planned route the day we left for this tour. Our guide and driver Tiegan and the highland explorer company were absolutely incredible at rearranging our itinerary on the fly, finding us accommodation along the route so we didn’t need to turn back to Edinburgh and finding time to show us the sights of Skye and the highlands despite limited daylight hours. Had a great adventure despite the changes and really enjoyed hearing all the stories along the way.

Dear Susan, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback of your recent 3-day tour to Skye with Tiegan. We are so happy to read that you had such a great time, despite the challenges we faced along the way due to the severe weather conditions in the Highlands. We hope to welcome you back on another of our tours one day, maybe in "summer", not that we get that many days of it here in Bonnie Scotland! Kind regards, Ayla

There are so many highlights on this trip. The walk up the mountain on the way to the old man of storr, Dunvegan castle and the Jacobite steam train were all amazing. But what really makes the trip are the guides! Rich was a wealth on knowledge sharing so much information in a really fun and entertaining way. I’m not a fan of history but Rich kept it upbeat and interesting the whole time and made us laugh. Sandy was also one of our guides and was so friendly. One tip from us is to book ahead for dinner reservations if you want to eat out from the hotel. If you don’t book ahead you might not get on anywhere or you could be queuing for a table for a while. We really recommend the glass green houses at the The Portree hotel….heated, with a speaker for you to blue tooth to and play your tunes and free wifi! Can’t recommend this trip enough!

We found Highland Explorer tours online and booked a 3 day trip from Edinburgh through the highlands, to the Isle of Skye and finished with the Hogwarts express train. Our tour guide Laurie was so genuine, honest, and fun to spend a few days with. I was afraid at first of a completely canned experience where the guide ‘sticks to the script’ but Laurie told the stories she knew (which were a lot) and wasn’t afraid to tell you if she forgot the year of an event or a name of a person or admit she’d never eaten at a restaurant when asked. This made for such an authentic experience and made her more credible. My wife fell in love with the spring lambs found all across the highlands and Laurie even bought her a stuffed lamb on our last day which was an incredibly sweet gesture. Thanks for everything Laurie! (Hi Laurie’s mom!)

Hi there, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. It sounds like you had a wonderful time on tour with our guide Laurie! We pride ourselves on the fact that all of our guides are informative, but they let their personality shine through so that all passengers get an authentic and local experience on tour. The wee lambs all over Scotland at this time on year are just so sweet, and we are so glad that you and your wife loved Laurie's kind gesture. We hope that you had a wonderful time on tour and that you come back in the future for more adventures with us! Very best wishes, Rhi
