Highland Lochs, Glens and Whisky Small-Group Day Trip from Edinburgh

Overview
Experience Scotland's rugged countryside on a 10-hour Highlands and whisky tour from Edinburgh. In a small-group, visit Scotland’s hilly Lowlands and forested Highlands, where you’ll spot waterfalls and migrating salmon in the River Braan. Stop in quaint towns for refreshments and optional whisky tastings, and soak up the stunning landscape — a mosaic of verdant glens, loch and rivers. Along the way, learn the often dark history of this wild region.
What to Expect
Your full-day excursion sets off from Edinburgh in the morning. Meet your guide in the city center and take a comfortable seat in the van. Enjoy morning views of the city as you cross the Forth Road Bridge, one of the world's longest cantilever bridges.

Cruise through the Lowlands into the Highlands, where farmland gives way to mountains and thick forests, the setting for many historic tales such as ‘Birnam Wood’ in Macbeth. Your first stop is the Hermitage, a natural wonderland where you’ll stroll through fir-lined paths along the River Braan.

After your nature walk, climb back in the coach for a drive through the River Tay valley. Admire the winding river — the longest in Scotland — as you make your way to the charming town of Pitlochry. Here, you’ll have some free time to explore this popular vacation destination. Admire the architecture as you stroll past small shops and eateries, then grab lunch (own expense) and pop into a local whisky distillery.

Next, enjoy natural vistas at Killiecrankie and Queen’s View, where you can often see beyond Loch Tummel and Schiehallion to Glencoe, a glen that boasts high mountain peaks and a legendary history. Continue to Loch Tay, Loch Killin and the dramatic Braes of Balquhidder, where 18th Scottish patriot and outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor is buried. After a day of sightseeing, relax for the ride back to Edinburgh, arriving at Waterloo Place in the evening.
