        Autumn at the Giant's Causeway
The places we visited in our six-day trip to Northern Ireland exceeded our expectations, beginning with the Giant's Causeway. The weather in early October was perfect, and we were awestruck by the landscape and the natural rock formations. We spent a few hours outdoors taking photos of the vistas, taking photos for other tourists, and exploring the interior building. The gift shop is delightful, with cards, shirts, upscale apparel items and a wide variety of books for all ages. I bought a beautiful silk tie for my husband, two books for grandkids, and an assortment of postcards that I framed when we got home. My son enjoyed walking along the oceanside pillars, while I hiked path along the bottom of the mountainside. Many tourists spent their time climbing the pathway that leads from the beach all the way to the mountain top. Again, the weather was just perfect. This was our number 1 choice to visit in Ulster, and it didn't disappoint. I'm going to write about a few other sites in another review, "Autumn at Dunluce Castle".

Amazing Day seeing everything on our checklist!
We had an amazing day with Nigel. We stopped by Belfast on a cruise and wanted to get as many as the sights in as possible in a day. Nigel did a great job of getting us everywhere in a timely manner and telling us about his country as we went. He made sure we had enough time to enjoy each stop but kept us on schedule for trying to see all the we had prioritized. We did Ballintoy Harbor , Dark Hedges, Giants Causeway, Carrick a Rede bridge, many overlooks and time for a tour at Bushmills with amazing lunch in town and back to our ship in time. I would highly recommend this over large group tours.

Excellent full day tour of the coast
Exceptional tour. Barry was so friendly and knowledgable. He and went above and beyond to make sure we saw everything we wanted to and more. Yes a private tour is more expensive, but it is 100% worth every penny. Picked up and dropped off from our hotel, we never felt rushed and saw three times as much as we would have done if we had chosen a coach excursion. Would book them again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a brilliant day.

The tour of the walled city and hearing all the history. The explanations of the murals and then seeing them up close was somewhat emotional. We all enjoyed our knowledgeable guide and his insights.

I learned so much on this day trip to Londonderry
Barry McCann, contacted through Tours by Locals took us on an amazingly informative trip from Belfast to Derry where we learned about Bloody Sunday and the events leading up to and following it. We also learned about life in Derry today. He then took us to a stone circle in County Donegal, an interesting side trip. Barry was informative and transparent. The trip was well organized for maximum tour benefit. I highly recommend this tour and Barry.

        Terrific all the way around
Barry was terrific all the way astound! He picked us up at our hotel early Sunday morning, right away got into the subject with engaging energy, information, insightful dialogue and discussion. He seemed to be genuinely sharing his experience and perspective, while seeking ours…. He also dropped us off a ways from our pick up spot which was our next destination 😊 and then followed up with links & more information as he promised…. Was a great experience! Thank you 🙏

        Giant’s Causeway Tour
We booked the north coast tour with Giant’s Causeway. Nigel was our guide and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the area and a wealth of information about the history of the region and explained the origin of the Troubles with a very balanced approach. Nigel was very flexible with regard to what we wanted to see and our style of sightseeing. I recommend to limit the scope of your plans because it takes longer to move around the area than it may seem it would. Northern Ireland is beautiful and the people friendly and welcoming. We booked this tour very early but received an email confirming the dates and tour location. The email also indicated we would be contacted just before the date to confirm the time and location of the meeting. As promised we were contacted the day before and everything unfolded as described. So be patient and know your tour is on their books and will move along smoothly. We would recommend this company and Nigel particularly to any of our family and friends; please book with absolute confidence.

        Excellent!
We enjoyed our day with Mark. Vehicle was as promised, clean and well maintained. It was a private tour so Mark was flexible and drove us where we wanted to visit. He was a wealth of information on the "Troubles" without expressing his own opinion but rather giving us a more fact based explanation of the "Troubles". There was small confusion on the pickup time but it didn't affect the quality of the tour.

        Disappointing Experience
Liam was not an official tour guide. He was a good driver. I believe the owner of this company delegated this trip to this driver. He showed up 45 minutes late after us calling and texting multiple times. He said he got confused on if he had a trip. We were in the wind and rain waiting for the van outside of the cruise ship. He drove a Ford vehicle that smelled strongly of smoke. To me that should not be allowed in a professional tourism vehicle. The driver smoked at every stop then got back in vehicle. He played the radio instead of giving us any discussion of the location. When asked to turn off the radio and talk to us he seemed perplexed. We got absolutely zero information other than his opinions if we asked him. Not a single fact was provided. After an hour or 2 he asked our names and told us his. I would not recommend this experience for this price. We expected a guided tour and that is not at all what we got. Liam's strengths were he was a nice guy who was conversational when prodded and he was a safe driver who dropped us off and picked us up efficiently after a rough start.

Lovely spot but parking a disaster
Parking a disaster. No organisation around Parking. No directing traffic plans or one way systems which may help with congestion. Good bus service in from Bushmills but end up sitting stuck in traffic also..!! Surely the council in N.I could overhaul and fund more adequate parking and traffic flow??!

        Private tour
We had the best experience with Seamus during our tour. We relaxed in a clean and comfortable van and took in all of the amazing sights that Ireland has to offer. He was so knowledgeable and kind and let us determine where we wanted to stop. This was by far our best day in Ireland. I highly recommend a private tour with Seamus!

Excellent way to understand the Republican viewpoint and learn Irish history
Barry was our excellent and well organized tour guide. He began the tour by reviewing Irish history under English rule, The Troubles, and current affairs in Northern Ireland. He used the equivalent of PowerPoint slides (but in paper format) to help explain the history. Although Barry's viewpoint is aligned with the Republicans, his descriptions of England's treatment of Ireland matched what other nonpartisan, Irish tour guides told us. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable; furthermore, he willingly answered some challenging questions I had about IRA tactics. He took us to all of the important sites. We visited the Republican bookstore. The bookstore is stocked with a vast number Republican-oriented books, including numerous books documenting IRA women leaders, as well as tee shirts and other gift-type items. I recommend visiting the store. I was surprised to discover that the Peace Wall is more like the Berlin Wall. The Peace Wall is 48 feet tall. Note there are other smaller peace walls in Belfast He provided us with pens to sign the wall. The memorial across from the bookstore and the Republican cemetery were highlights. My friend and I learned a lot and had a good time.

The tour involves seeing murals and other sites related to the Troubles and the guide talks about their own perspective and experiences. There are stops and opportunities to look and to take photos. The guide was very helpful and personable. Issues are well explained and the guide tries to be evenhanded. The tour is thought provoking and even somewhat distressing given the sad past events and evidence that peace has not yet brought reconciliation. I am sure that other visitors from outside Northern Ireland wish like us for peace and progress for all people living in Belfast.

Fabulous tour guide with such a wealth of knowledge from both sides of the troubles. Was amazing to get a first hand account of what growing up in Belfast was like and how things have changed and are thankfully continuing to change. Barry was more than open when answering our questions and made us feel very at ease asking anything we were wondering and was so easy to hold a conversation with- no awkward silences! Gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip and even dropped us out to the Crumlin road to visit the gaol. Has to be the best in the business, can’t recommend enough!

Barry gave us an incredible tour of Falls Road and Shankill Road area, but the tour was much more than that. Starting out with Celtic history, he explained how the Ireland as an island had evolved, major historical events, all of which led up to the Troubles and today. My four kid—who know little of Irish history—were mesmerized and found a deep connection between what Barry shared and the American civil rights movement and civil rights issues today. Barry has personally experienced the Troubles and brings a personal perspective without maligning one side or the other. His tour included the IRA museum, a hidden gem with artifacts that will some day be in a much larger museum of Irish history. Very generously, Barry extended our two-hour tour to three hours so that we could see more of the lesser-known historic sites.

An excellent tour of West Belfast, and insight into the troubles. Barry was an excellent guide, firstly taking time to explain some of the history of Ireland and Northern Ireland, leading to the troubles I grew up seeing reported back on TV in England in the 70s onwards. A truly humbling experience, particularly getting a perspective of both sides of the conflict. Highly recommended to anyone interested in wanting to understand more about the history of the troubles, however much you might think you know today. My 15 year old son equally found the tour informative and enthralling.

Absolutely loved the Guided Tour facilitated by the extremely knowledgeable Barry. We learned such a rich but a distressing part of history our Irish men, women and children were forced to live through for 30 years. The murals painted throughout the Falls Road tell the story experienced by a population who were subjected to torture and suffering which hopefully will never be revisited on these people or society again. Peace and good will be forever the future of Ireland's 32 counties.

What a wealth of knowledge we were given in two short hours! My 17 year old daughter and I took this tour on our second day in Ireland, not really knowing the details of the 852 years of conflict between these two groups, Boy, did Barry fill us in on so much history and personal experience that by the time we left we were in shock and very saddened with what we learned. Are we glad we took this tour? ABSOLUTELY! We will never forget the things we saw and the stories we heard. Barry did such a wonderful job of keeping us engaged (not once did my daughter think to get on social media--she was mesmerized and hung on to his every word). We thoroughly enjoyed the pace of the trip, efficiency of the time, and comfort and safety of Barry's guidance. It makes me want to read more about this unfortunate part of history.

Just returned from an excellent and highly informative afternoon spent in Belfast with Barry. Barry’s tour is not only rich with historical details, but his personal connection to the stories and history he’s telling make the experience all the better. I would recommend this tour to anyone and everyone who is visiting Belfast even just for a day; if you do anything whilst you’re here, do Barry’s tour. Easily the best guided tour I’ve ever taken.
