- Shevjenko0 contributionsThe Giants CausewayWhilst I’m sure this trip would be better in warmer months, the whole experience was great, I read the reviews as you are now and were lucky enough to have Patrick as our driver and guide for the day, as he seemed to be the man, we were not disappointed, a lovely day, I think the experience was enhanced as we could spread out on the coach, if it was a full coach I’m not sure we’d have enjoyed it as much, very comfortable though, no complaints, just nice to have a row to yourself! The trip took us all around the north coastal road of the island as stated in the adverts with the mind-blowing, Giants Causeway, a unesco heritage site and you can feel and see why Refreshments and lunch options, at an extra cost, were available at stops along the way, we took in the pub lunch and that was delightful, plenty of stops for use of amenities Patrick is a top guy, great knowledge and humour too We had a thoroughly enjoyable dayWritten January 18, 2025
- Cosmopolitan482290 contributionsComfortable journey to DublinWe went on the coach to the Guinness Store House as part of a hospitality course. Paul was our driver and he was extremely friendly and accommodating. The small coach was new and very comfortable with the opportunity to move the seats slightly to enable passengers seated together to have a bit more space. You could also charge your phone. I would definitely recommend this coach company. We were all very impressed.Written January 17, 2025

- letsplaysquash0 contributionsMoney is their GOD - certainly not customer service! What an appalling experience with this 'less-than-understanding' company! Was part of a group scheduled to travel on 07/12/2024 on one of the McCombs Kildare Shopping Village trips - yes, that's right, during 'Storm Darragh.' Set off by train from Coleraine Train Station at 06.30am to make the pick up by the McCombs bus, at Europa Hotel Belfast at 8.20pm. Of course there was the storm, and between Ballymoney and Ballymena, the storm had 'felled' trees (an act of God - clearly 'out-of-the-hands-of-man') which blocked the railway line/train meaning a return to Coleraine was the only option. McCombs travel were contacted by telephone and e-mail to ensure that the driver didn't wait unnecessarily for my party, who because of the travel chaos, were not going to be able to make the scheduled pick-up - that was demonstrably, both a courteous and thoughtful action on behalf of my group - would that such courtesy might be reciprocated by McCombs, ......not a chance! My group sought on Monday 09/12/2024, to request that McCombs might provide a credit, either full or partial, for use on one of their tours next Christmas 2025, not what one would expect was an unreasonable request given the particular and unexpected circumstances, and the weather on the day of the trip - of course the groups expectation would be that McCombs might just have applied some 'common-sense' -- not a chance, their response was ...'It is not possible to credit these tickets - As we were not informed they would not be travelling, we were unable to resell their seats. If they wish to travel, it will require new tickets. Currently, there are no scheduled dates for Kildare in 2025. It usual runs from March, on the last Saturday of the month. Once we are closer to Christmas again, it is will run more frequently. The last date of this year is this Saturday 14th December - which has limited availability, if they wish to rebook.' -- now quite how my party could have done anything more than what they did to notify McCombs of their non-travel and the circumstances prevailing at that time, I don't know, but what should be pointed out is that at no point on the McCombs website page relevant to the Kildare Shopping Village trip - https://www.mccombscoaches.com//tours/kildare-village-shopping-tour - is there any disclaimer regarding non-refundable/non-changeable conditions, so either a full/partial or a transferrable credit note arrangement, would be been an expectation, and was not in our view an unreasonable request! Our advice on this Company -- FIND A DIFFERENT PROVIDER, THERE IS LITTLE IF ANY CUSTOMER CARE PROVIDED BY McCOMBS, AND EVEN LESS COMMON BUSINESS SENSE! :-)Written December 12, 2024
- SPell1010 contributionsBrilliant! Karl exceptional !Me and my partner did this tour on Sunday 8th Dec. Our driver Karl was also the tour guide and he was exceptional!! A real asset to the company. He explained everything in depth and had a good sense of humour! We are regular travellers going on around 10 holidays a year and this was by far one of the best trips we have ever been on. The little pub in Ballintoy ‘Fullerton arms’ was lovely and the steak pie was to die for! The giants causeway was also a highlight of the tour. £35 for this tour is a total steal! We had the best day! Thanks so much !!!Written December 11, 2024

Such a great day trip with Mccombs coaches. Our driver Patrick was an excellent guide, really funny and an expert at driving the huge coach along the winding roads.
The tour took off at around 8.20am but there was another coach just at the back to pick up more people.
We booked premium seats just behind the driver and this was great as the views and scenery on the drive are amazing even though it was quite foggy we still had great views.
The stops on the trip are all well organised and plenty of time at each location never felt rushed.
Really enjoyed the caves and also thought the dark hedges were so beautiful.
The causeway itself was just amazing, we took the red trail which gave amazing views out over the coast and even though we got absolutely soaked at the bottom of the causeway it didn’t dampen our spirits as it’s such a sight to see.
There’s also a shuttle bus that can take you to the causeway and back up again if u can’t or don’t want to walk too far.
The pub lunch was also good but you don’t have to do this there’s plenty of places on the various stops to buy your own food or you could take a packed lunch.
All in all a great day and would definitely recommend the trip and would also recommend Patrick as a guide such a wealth of knowledge not just about the places on the trip but also about Northern Ireland’s history. We had a brilliant day thanks Patrick!

The trip was excellent value for money, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Paul, the driver was funny & informative, without talking too much and unnecessarily. He gave context to each of the places we visited.
We did not feel rushed at any of the stops.
We had plenty of time at the Causeway, too, which was the highlight. Plan for the weather, and wear sensible shoes to get the most from the visit.
There is the opportunity for a pub lunch that can be booked ahead of arriving at the lunch stop, but you can bring your own lunch and use the pub beer garden, though it was a dry and warm day for us, it might have been less fun on a rainy/cold day. There were covered areas, but there was limited space.

Highly recommend this trip, it’s great value for money and our driver was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their city and country with wee stories throughout the journey. We booked this tour after reading positive reviews and agree the trip was excellent. Our driver was Karl who shared information throughout the trip, including making it clear what the plan was for the day at the start which helped the day run smoothly. He also shared information about Belfast itself including recommendations for places to eat etc. We were given plenty of time at each stop and even had the option to order lunch ahead of time which was efficient and the food was great.

I had a very horrible and traumatic experience with the McCombs tour company, which is extremely unfriendly towards children. The staff is inadequately trained to handle parents with young children (my child is 3 years old).
We booked a tour for seven people, including our 3-year-old child, and were seated in the second row. The tour started at 8:30 am. After our first stop, my child was quietly playing and enjoying the scenery without causing any loud disruptions. However, the driver, Paul, who had been talking non-stop since we boarded, lost his temper. He made an announcement (without any prior announcements that the noise was bothering him) that he wouldn't tolerate children talking over him and declared he would stop the talking aspect of the tour and request a replacement driver at our second stop. This resulted in us driving for approximately 40 minutes in complete silence.
At the second stop, Paul repeated his announcement, stating the stop is typically only 20 minutes but would be extended as he awaited a replacement driver. He suggested we either switch to another bus or request refunds. Despite our attempts to reason with him and find a solution, he refused to communicate with us.
There was no Wi-Fi, no supervisor present at the second stop, and the drivers from other McCombs buses seemed unaware of whom to contact in such situations. After 20 minutes, Paul announced that getting another driver would take 3 hours, which he deemed unfair to the other passengers. It felt like we were sitting on a ticking time bomb, fearing that any noise from my child might set him off again. We spent the rest of the tour trying to keep our child in silence, using a phone to entertain our child.
I don't understand how they expect a child to sit in silence from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. If these are the expectations, the tour company should not accept children below a certain age, especially considering they charge full price for children starting at age 2.
To conclude, I would highly recommend avoiding this tour company if you have children who cannot stay quiet for the entire duration of the tour, especially if your driver is Paul.

To start with, Karl the driver was very good- very informative and kept to time. He made the trip. Also good price.
Overall though this wasn’t an enjoyable trip though. The main issue is the organisation and the unnecessary stops - then the rushing at others.
To begin with- the stop at Carrickfergus Castle is not necessary. You just stand outside and don’t go in and it wasted time with later stops that could have had longer. The pass bys are ok- and I enjoyed the commentary and learning the history. The glens of Antrim was ok - but to be honest and this also goes with the dark hedges- when you have a bus load of people you literally cannot get a decent photo opportunity. There are hundreds of people who descend off all different coaches at once (there’s a bit of a convoy) who get in the way and ruin the experience. The rope bridge wasn’t worth a stop- it was miles away you could barely see it.
The most disappointing stop is the stop for lunch. I would recommend taking your own lunch with you- we had 40 minutes and by the time we’d eaten and had a drink it was time to get back on the bus again- there wasn’t even enough time to go to the toilet quickly before leaving. It made it very stressful and rushed. They take your order on the coach so it’s ready when you arrive but it’s not long enough. There was then a change to the itinerary- we did giants causeway then the distillery then the dark hedges. I’m not sure why as there isn’t a toilet at the dark hedges and it takes well over an hour to get back to Belfast afterwards. The giants causeway was great, the stop at dunlace castle and the distillery was totally unnecessary (though the ice cream down the road was very nice) and the dark hedges we only had half an hour which was just enough time to walk to them and back from the carpark.
Overall too rushed and unbalanced as an experience. Only the giants causeway was worth it and be aware that going on a coach means your always with hundreds of people

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review. It's great to hear much you enjoyed the tour and your driver! We find all feedback valuable - From our years of experience, we know how long is sufficient at each location. Although you found some sites unnecessary, others travelling may find these to be their highlights. It should be expected that there are others experiencing Northern Ireland's top attraction all year round - you are also one of them! There are bathrooms at all of the locations on the tour, including The Dark Hedges. It will have been explained, this is found inside the café. We're glad you enjoyed The Giant's Causeway :)

What a fabulous day! If you're considering booking this just do it! We are local and took 2 Scottish friends as we wanted to all enjoy the day without driving. Karl was our driver and we cannot praise him enough. He was wonderful. He started talking as soon as the bus moved and shared information, facts and jokes the whole day. The stops were fabulous with just enough time at each. We opted to have a picnic lunch but you could have prebooked lunch at the Fulllerton Arms if you wished and the food looked great. Honestly the best day out and best value we've had for a long time. Chuffed to be able to show off our country in such a good light. We'll done McCombs. Give Karl a raise!

Early start and a very full and fun packed day. Our driver, Patrick was excellent. Witty, knowledgeable and great fun. We headed up the Antrim coast stopping at various places for photo opportunities, some longer than others but to pack it all in in a day would be tough. If you’re not back on the bus when you are told, you will be left and I’m in full agreement with this. You are warned and you have time to do what you need to. Patrick told us all about the areas we were in, the history and we also visited a few places where GoT were filmed. Lunch is pre ordered and stop or 2 before you get to the pub and was really tasty and ran like clockwork. We got 2 hours at the giants causeway which sounded a long time but flew by and we had time for a quick drink at the nook before heading to Bushmills. On the way back we visited the dark hedges but unfortunately a lot of these trees have gone due to weather and disease but still spectacular to see. We got back to Belfast about 6 or just after so a full on day. We paid £55 for the day trip which also included anytime access to the titanic museum and I thought this was great value for a brilliant day out

It was an eventful trip. We were lucky enough with both the weather and the traffic, no rain and no big waiting anywhere, it definitely helped with the experience. Plenty of stops for bathroom/coffee needs:) I recommend to sit on the right side behind the bus driver, it provides beautiful views when driving alongside the shore.
Our driver/guide Paul was great, knew a lot and was entertaining.
There's an option to order lunch in advance from a set menu, so when you arrive to Ballintoy, you get served immediately (not included in the price, you pay there). The lunch was ok, nothing to write home about, but it was filling.
There was a lot of gorgeous scenery, Paul stopped at many places so you can stretch your legs and take a photo if you like. The Giant's Causeway has two trails you can take to get to - red one and blue one. Blue one is easier, red one is a bit more challenging, I'd recommend good shoes. If you have troubles with your knees, maybe not for you. There's also a bus going from the visitor's center to the stones directly (and the other way as well, Paul said it costs 1 pound).
The last stop is the Dark Hedges - I'm not a GoT fan, it was nice, but nothing that special. If you are a fan, it might mean more to you.

Had an absolutely great time on this tour. It felt like we had just the right amount of time at each stop. Karl struck the exact right balance between enough information and enough time to absorb what we were seeing and hearing, so that nothing ever felt rushed but we always knew what was happening and what we were seeing. Great photos, great information, and just all around a great time. Premium seats felt worth it to us to be first off the bus and have the best view out the front of the coach, particularly as we drove along the water.

Amazing views. Chose not to purchase a tour ticket since our travel timing wasn't exact enough to schedule a specific time. While you can see the causeway without a ticket, it requires a VERY long and arduous walk down to the sea instead of being carried by coach. However, while I chose not to make that walk to make it all the way to the sea level activity, we chose to walk along the cliffs, which was fantastic and allowed for astounding views and lots of pictures. We parked in the narrow gauge train station parking lot (10 pounds for all day) since the visitor center parking was full and walked up the hill to the main causeway entrance, about 1/4 mile.

Just a list of places you stop- we started at Carrickfergus and ended at Dark Hedges too. We didn’t go to the brewer.

Trying to decide between this trip and other more expensive ones. The description doesn’t tell me much about the stops. Other than Giant’s Causeway where does it stop? Thanks

At the end of the tour you can get off the coach at the city hall in the centre of town or the tour company offices on Donegall road where the tour leaves from in the morning.

Overall are you on the coach long periods of time or short bursts please

It is a full day but the journey is broken up nicely. Max journey time was approx 30mins - there are lots of stops - refreshments and toilets. Plus it is a circular route so you don't go over the same ground on the way back. Definitely recommend.

HI, I would like to do a tour on the 24th of march, but the first train from Dublin to Belfast will arrive at 9.45. Is possible to a have a tour that starts at 10?
Written March 13, 2023
I agree with Peter C on this, you’d need to find a tour company that leaves later. Sorry can’t help.

There is a rain prediction for the day I want to book a trip. Will there still be a tour in case of rain or will it be postponed ?
Written November 13, 2022
I would check with the specific tour company you are looking to book with regarding their policies regarding the weather. When we left Belfast the skies were overcast and we encountered some rain but then the skies cleared and we had perfect weather for the rest of the tour.

Does this tour go to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge?
Written August 8, 2022
No, from what we heard they don’t allow tour buses on it now and you have to reserve a car spot to go over it.
