- annjeanbeasley0 contributionsBeatrix Potter TourExcellent tour with Tim who was very knowledgeable, attentive and considerate. There were only 4 of us on the tour and he had time for all of us explaining what we were going to do. Two of the tourists were Japanese and he was able to speak to them for little bits in Japanese very impressed. Saw all the places that were relevant to the lady herself. Tour time was just about right, but perhaps would have to have a look around Wray Castle.Written March 18, 2024

Slight disappointment that we didn't take a couple of the high passes despite the mini bus having winter tyres. I can tell you coaches with winter tyres take routes in Norway, that we would consider impossible, with no trouble!Written February 13, 2024

First, we were mistakenly waiting at the incorrect pickup spot. Once we called the contact number, they arranged for the driver to pick is up anyway. We had an exceptional tour guide in Tony. He narrated beautifully and took us to lovely views on and off the beaten path. Tony went above and beyond such as taking us back to our hotel. This was all on a rainy, foggy day with 2 teenage boys. We all had a great experience and would definitely recommend Mountain Goat Tours and book with them again!

This was a great way to see the Lakes as a first-time. It really helped to give us an overview and orientation to the Lakes which helped us to better plan the rest of our stay.
Derek was excellent. He was a very safety conscious driver navigating the tricky roads during a wet and icy winter. He shared many stories and facts with us throughout the 7 to 8 hours both on the Lakes, life in the community of Cumbria as well as beyond.
The young children were also well looked after on this trip and Derek made sure that he was also able to share stories that kept them engaged.

Did the 10 Lake's tour on 17/11/17 to give hubby a day off from driving. Picked up and dropped off at the hotel and it was a wonderful experience. Derek the driver was an absolute fountain of knowledge and even though we have been to the lakes numerous times we saw and learnt things we didn't know. Well worth the money and a really enjoyable day.

We have been to the lakes many times but it usually involved one of us driving. We decided to let the mountain goat mini coach take the strain so that we could see areas we have never reached before. Fortunately it was a cold but beautiful day. Phil the driver was well informed and was able to manoeuvre the tight little roads quite fearlessly.
With frequent stops we were able to take photos and enjoy the stunning scenery before stepping back on the bus. Well worth the price and a great experience for the usual car driver to relax and enjoy the views.

Whilst the scenery in the Lake District is beautiful, and this tour did take us to many attractive places, the service on the tour itself was unsatisfactory.
From the very beginning this tour was awful. The driver was completely impersonable and unfriendly - he did not even tell us his name and made no effort to connect with any passengers whatsoever. He did not take the time to tell us where we would be going throughout the day. Having done other tours in the past, and experiencing fantastic tour guides who made genuine efforts to interact and converse with passengers, we were extremely disappointed by this. Nevertheless, if this was the only problem we had with the tour, I believe we would've had a positive experience - but unfortunately, this was not the case.
We booked the Winter Ten Lakes Spectacular, which was advertised to include a number of stops including mountain passes. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, certain stops on the tour such as the mountain passes were too dangerous to drive to, which is completely understandable and fair. The issue was that the driver did not mention this until we directly asked him where we were going, as it was clear that the itinerary we booked online was not being followed, and we drove through the same towns multiple times. Furthermore, the driver's commentary during the tour was quite robotic, and it was clear he was not passionate about the tour. The stops throughout the tour were very short (most 10-15 minutes) and did not allow enough time for passengers to walk around and explore the places we visited ā this is fine for people who are happy to sit on a bus and enjoy the views, but for those who want to walk around and properly experience the towns and lakes, this tour is not for you.
To make matters worse, the married couple sitting next to us would not stop making out the entire drive, which is certainly out of the control of Mountain Goat, but was extremely uncomfortable and took a lot of the enjoyment away from the tour.
We decided to leave the tour half-way through, as we could not enjoy the day due to the unfriendly driver, many attractions being skipped, short stops, and horrific company on the bus.
We hope that other passengers have had more positive experiences with Mountain Goat, but from our experience we certainly would not recommend this tour.

Hello benphol,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we must say we are naturally disappointed by it however, we are happy you enjoyed the scenery and the areas you visited.
I have spoken to your driver guide, Tony, who insists he introduced himself to everyone when all passengers were on the bus, just before beginning the tour. We believe our driver guides to be highly professional, courteous and knowledgeable, and we often find them going above and beyond to provide the best experience possible for their passengers. We have never heard Tony described as unfriendly before.
As you say, the weather conditions did not permit our buses from traveling over the high mountain passes due to ice and snow, however, Tony has confirmed with me that he did explain it would not be possible to do the tour as stated in the brochure but he would do his best to show you as much of the itinerary as possible as well as add in extra places we would not normally visit.
It is down to the driverās discretion which roads they use when on tour in adverse weather conditions, this is for their safety as well as the passengers in their vehicle. Because of this Tony has said he ran a running commentary as he didnāt want to explain the route he intended to take until he was driving through the location so he didnāt disappoint his passengers in case he needed to make a last-minute change due to roads being impassable.
Tony also confirmed you asked him whether you could get off the bus in Keswick because you were staying there, and you did not voice any issues when asking this question. He also said he made sure to visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, a highlight of the trip, before you left the tour to ensure you saw as much as possible, even though this would usually be seen after the lunch stop in the town.
We are sorry other passengers on the tour made you feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this is mostly out of our control, however, had you mentioned this to Tony we are sure he would have tried his best to make your tour more enjoyable.
Best wishes, Mountain Goat

Did this trip on Thursday 31 October 2019. I had been initially reluctant to join an organised tour, thinking we could do the same on our own. How wrong I was! The tour covered a huge amount of ground, we saw FAR FAR more than we would have done on our own and we were given lots of interesting information on the way round that we'd never otherwise have heard. Mike was informative, kind and a polite driver, pulling over sometimes to let vehicles past. We stopped at so many places, for just about the right length of time. Mike always gave clear instructions about how to rejoin the minibus and gave suggestions for places to go. I would really recommend this trip
