Merida Market Tour and Cooking Class

Select Date and Travelers
2 travelers
Get a true taste of Yucatecan cuisine and meet the local people of Merida as you shop at the market for fresh ingredients and prepare several tasty dishes. Your half-day culinary tour includes a cooking class at the home of a local host with the assistance of your knowledgeable guide. Learn about various culinary traditions of Mexico and enjoy the light lunch you’ve prepared! Numbers are limited to 12 people, ensuring an intimate experience with a small group of like-minded food lovers.
  • Go with a guide: The market can be overwhelming to navigate on your own
  • Cook Yucatan specialties and learn traditions from locals
  • Bilingual guide facilitates conversation with market vendors and host family
  • Small group size of 12 or fewer ensures a personal, intimate experience
What to Expect
Meet a guide at 1pm in the heart of historic Merida. After a short ride in an air-conditioned minivan, arrive at a local market rarely visited by tourists. The guide navigates the labyrinth of stalls, pointing out ingredients you may not recognize on your own.
Return to the minivan after purchasing ingredients for the afternoon cooking class. On arrival at the home of a local family, choose from a selection of traditional recipes, including black-bean tostadas and fried tortillas.
Experience a side of Mexico rarely available to visitors as the host family takes you through the recipe. During the cooking class, the guide teaches you about how the cuisine, traditions, and history of the Yucatan differ from the rest of Mexico.
After enjoying the meal in good company, the guide arranges a taxi back to central Merida (own expense).
