What to expect
In the beginning of class there is a brief introduction in Josefina's home and kitchen. Your recipe selections for the day are based on class size. Classes with 8 students will be cooking the famous Yucatecan dish Cochinita Pibil as the main course (for those that don't eat pork, substitutions can be made). However, classes tend to run small so you will have more flexibility in what you can cook for the day (limited to 8 students). Around the prep-table, you will peruse Josefina's personal recipe book (note: with purchase of this culinary experience the e-cookbook is included - enjoy over 60 personal recipes from Josefina's home kitchen!) or discuss as a group and decide what to cook as a main dish. Many side dishes will already be pre-selected including how to make handmade tortillas, salsas, guacamole, salads and more! Following the introduction, you will take a short walk to the local market to pick out some fresh ingredients which you will take back to the house. Not only is her class a fun food thing to do it is also very cultural. The remaining class time you will prepare your meal which you will enjoy at the end of class (although, don't worry, Josefina will have some beverages and snacks to get you through the class).

So much fun and so delicious
Mar 2020 • Friends
My sister, cousin and I went to Josefinas home for this excursion while on our cruise. It was the most fun and we enjoyed learning how to make tortillas, sauces, black beans and much more. Then we got to eat everything. Yummy!!! It is located on trip advisor. Not a cruise excursion. Make sure when booking this that she only takes 8-10 people. Great day!!

Josephine was the greatest host and provided the best instruction and hospitality. My wife and 21 year old daughter can’t say enough great things about our lesson. Roughly 3 hours including the trip to the market and it felt like 15 minutes. This is definitely a don’t miss opportunity.

I loved the class with Josefina and Maria. We were welcomed immediately. We felt so comfortable. The class was semi hands on which I didn’t expect. We formed our own tortillas after Maria made the dough. We also helped clean and chop the cactus. The trip to the market was wonderful. Josefina introduced us to various vendors which was nice because we knew we could trust their products (like vanilla). Her food was delicious. She let the class pick the entree and salsa. We picked Mole’ which has 21 ingredients and she didn’t blink an eye at our choice. It did not disappoint us. It was so nice that my friend and I were with a group of foodies!! I would highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys a good lunch and instruction from a wonderful cook. Thank you Josefina for a great class.

Top-Notch Class
Jan 2020 • Couples
This was an excellent class! Señora Josefina was a very knowledgeable cook with a great deal of teaching experience. The local market was an easy (short!) walk, was clean, and had everything from homemade marshmallows to fresh fish to clay cook pots. The mole we made was delicious, and the green salsa was even better! The only disappointments were that we expected it to be a private class (we were joined by 6 others) and that it wasn’t quite as hands-on as we expected (there was an assistant who did the majority of the cooking while we only did a bit of prep work). Overall, though, we would highly recommend this class!

We like "Top-Notch". Thank you!! And thank you for joining Josefina for the day in her home kitchen. Glad that you got a chance to visit the local market and try a variety of delicious homemade dishes. We do apologize on not having the class private - this time of year unfortunately the demand leaves us little room to do this (plus Josefina really needs to work and earn money before the low season). We thank you for your understanding in this matter. And yes, because of the larger class - the tiny cooking area (stove/ oven) can be hard to accommodate a larger group for the "more hands on experience". Though we do hope you learned a lot through demonstration and all of the prep work you did to make your meal - including those "handmade tortillas". I find this task to be one of the most challenging.

Awesome Time
Dec 2019
Can't say enough about how wonderful this experience was. My wife and I were looking for a private tour, and Emily contacted us the day before our cruise departed to tell us we could book this for just us. We were a 5 minute taxi ride ($8usd) from the Punta Langosta pier to Josefina's kitchen. You immediately feel at home. Josefina spent some time asking about our preferences and giving us a choice of what we wanted for our main course. Then, it's off to the market, where we picked the freshest ingredients for our meal. Back at Josefina's, we were shown and practiced techniques on how to prepare cactus, make hand-made tortillas, and prepare the wrapped fish for our lunch. We had a wonderful time, and I would suggest this for anyone.

Truly wonderful experience
Nov 2019
We had a wonderful experience with Josefina and her cooking class. We were on a cruise and were a bit nervous getting to her place and back on our own. We had nothing to worry about. The timing for the class was well within our time on shore in Cozumel. The short taxi rides were very easy and reasonable. Emily responded to our emails inquiring about this class and signing us up - she was extremely helpful and answered all our questions. Josefina was a delight. My husband and I really enjoyed getting to know her and learning about the culture and customs of the area. Shopping for the ingredients of our meal was another highlight as we got to experience a bit more of the culture. Maria was there to assist with the preparation of our meal - both she and Josefina were very kind and seemed to really enjoy making this a memorable experience for us. We were very pleased that we signed up for this and highly recommend it if you enjoy cooking classes and have an interest in authentic local settings.

We had the best experience with Josefina! The food was amazing and we even learned to make homemade tortillas. I recommend this to anyone who loves the Hispanic culture and wants to enhance their cooking skills.
