A great trip, which took us from Castries down the west coast of St.Lucia to the waters off of the Pitons and back again.
The wildlife was a little slow to oblige, but our patience was rewarded when we were treated to a display from a large pod of short and long beaked common dolphins. Several plumes of spray from the blow hole of a sperm whale were spotted in the distance, as was the whale’s tail, before it plunged to the depths never to be seen again.
We saw Captain Mike at the start of the day but he didn’t join us for the passage. No matter, we were left in the very capable hands of his skipper and crew. The 1st mate/fish spotter had the eyes of an eagle and the balance of a gymnast; how he never fell over without holding onto the boat all morning I struggle to comprehend. There was a healthy supply of beverages, including the obligatory rum punch, as well as the provision of bananas and crisps.
With mammals spotted and the alcohol starting to take effect, the return journey was more relaxed. After a subtle increase in the volume of the onboard music we were treated to some highly accomplished dancing from one of the onboard hostesses, with some of the less inhibited punters unable to stop themselves from joining in.
All in all, a great morning afloat.

We had a fantastic time on the boat with the team of captain mikes! They were full of energy, really welcoming and friendly and so enthusiastic to see the wildlife. We were really fortunate to see all kinds of dolphins including spinner dolphins! There were so many and we got to spend a lot of time watching them ride our boats waves, coming close to the boy and showing off with jumps a little further out. We also got some beautiful views of the pitons from the sea.

We had a great trip with Cap'n Mike. We didn't see any whales, but we saw 4 different species of dolphins, including spinners' the one's that leap out of the water and spin around. Often they were following the boat. We saw a lot of flying fish too. The trip lasted 3.5 hours so you get a good long time, and if you're nervous the liberal quantities of rum punch help no end. Snacks in the form of a banana and some pringles were kind of weird but what the hell. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the loud music playing on the radio. Maybe it attracted the dolphins, who knows, but all in all a great trip.

We had gone on a whale and dolphin watching excursion when in Funchal, Madeira only one month before we went on this tour and we thought we knew what to expect. In Funchal we were on a large, quiet catamaran, there were 6 other catamarans and other boats on the lookout for dolphins and a spotter on a high lookout post on each boat. We paid one third of the price of Captain Mike’s tour and we had dolphins swimming around our catamaran for the permitted 15 minutes. A wonderful experience.
The price we were paying on Captain Mike’s tour made us think that there would be a sophisticated spotting system, using other boats in the area. How wrong we were. We got on Free Willy, which is a noisy, old, fishing boat. A 90 degree ladder lashed to the boat was the way of getting up onto the top deck. It looked just as difficult to go down to the toilet area, so didn’t try. The water was quite choppy and there was clearly no proper system of spotting, with two young helpers looking over the side when they weren’t doing other duties. We weren’t surprised that the only wildlife we saw were some flying fish. We basically spent three hours on an expensive, noisy boat trip to and from the pitons.
I wouldn’t recommend this tour. Save your money.

This was a great trip, it had been raining on land but out at sea was clear. The team were brilliant and we were warned that spotting anything was not guaranteed. Before we saw the dolphins it was already a fantastic trip, the crew were friendly and were ready with a Piton beer and the boat took us down to a view of the pitons.
We saw a fin but really thought that was it for the day but no!
a pod of 20+ dolphins started chasing the boat and jumping through the wake! Amazing

We were docking at St Lucia on a cruise and did the Dolphin and Whale watching on Free Willy as a group of 8. The trip didn't have the best start, it was rough sea and it rained heavily, to the point you couldn't see much. The staff were very attentive bringing us soft drinks or rum punch. We were starting to wonder if we would ever see anything. Suddenly the rain the stopped, and we saw two splashes. The captain turned towards the splashes, and suddenly loads of Dolphins were jumping all around us. About twenty minutes later we then saw pilot whales, which hadn't been spotted for two months according to the guides. Among the group of pilot whales was a mother and a calf. The dolphins made reappearances as well as the pilot whales. A fantastic tour, it didn't have the best start but it turned amazing! Definately would recommend.

Nov 2022 • Couples
We had our experience on Thursday 24th November. The staff were very friendly and have a lot of knowledge of not just the marine life but the island as well! We were lucky that we saw some flying fish, common dolphins and sperm whales. It’s not guaranteed you will see anything but that’s nature and you can’t force the animals to come out. In my opinion, even if you didn’t see dolphins or whales the whole experience is worth it for everything else you experience on the trip especially for the price. I forgot to mention they also give you refreshments whilst on board as well which is nice. The trip lasted around three and a half hours for us from the moment we left until we docked back up.

Last year I left a review "best trip yet"
This year we did the trip again but were thinking we had had our share of luck.
The weather was lovely and we started out going out to sea.
Nothing happened for a while but then we were told they had seen something which would come on the port side.
The staff were excited and I was amazed when I saw what I thought were killer whales. The most I saw surface at any one time was 3 but there were more.
We managed to stay with them for about 15 mins I guess and it was only afterwards when I spoke to the crew we realised how lucky we were.
It was the first time they had seen Killers too!!
My 86 year old Mum has always wanted to see them so that's something off her bucket list.
Then on the way back we also saw a pod of pilot whales.
Altogether amazing!!

Captain Mike's was an amazing tour! There were about 10 individuals on the boat with us, as well as three crew members. The boat was nice, though the crew was even better! They were attentive to our needs and incredibly informative. We saw frazer and bottlenose dolphins as well as a stunning view of the Pitons! I would highly recommend this tour!

Is there a “season” or “certain” months where there are better chances to see more whale sightings (Like Hawaii is November thru April). We will be there in April. Antigua says their waters are over-fished so they don’t have a large population of either? Thank you!
