DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY
DO NOT BOOK QITH THIS COMPANY!! I had a terrible experience with GoWithGuide in Nairobi. We had a cultural city tour booked with Charles, and had selected a custom itinerary based on our interests. Even though I confirmed with the guide the day before the tour, we were in for a bad suprise when an Uber driver showed up over 40 min late… no guide in sight. He proceeded to drive us to multiple spots in town to supposedly pick up a guide who never showed up. So we wasted a whole afternoon driving in traffic, didn’t get to visit the most of the places we wanted to see, and got none of the cultural context we would have liked. I could have hired an Uber driver myself for half the price!! I reached out to the guide to understand what happened and get a refund, and instead of explaining himself he started to harrass me through Whatsapp. I then contacted the company, who at first seemed helpful but just stopped replying to my emails after a few weeks. Worst customer service I’ve ever seen from a tour company.

      Bait and Switch
My sister and I went to Lisbon recently, and arranged 4 tours to nearby attractions (Sintra, Obidos, Mafra, Setúbal wine region). We deliberately selected guides based on their experience, languages and reviews. We expected to get the two guides for the four tours we had selected, but in both cases got reassigned to other guides at the last minute. These guides ranged from fair to excellent, so this review really isn't about them, it's about the company. Why post bios with relevant experience, reviews and other information on which people base their selection, only to assigned people you didn't pick? I contacted both tour guides as well as the company, and while they were apologetic, they didn't explain why they advertised one thing but delivered another.

Tokyo - * Exceptional Tour with* - Ken T. - Best Private Custom Tour of Tokyo
We arranged for our first time tour of Tokyo with Ken T, as our tour guide He also uses a Go Pro camera to capture the highlights so you can just enjoy your tour. The video is complimentary (no charge) and is something you will enjoy for years and years and share with family and friends. Below is my review which I posted regarding our tour experience. We are from Vancouver, BC Canada and had a customized tour of Tokyo 9 hours). You can customize your own tour based on the amount of time you want. We wanted to see lots as it was our first trip, so did a 9 hour tour. It was my first trip to Japan and I was travelling with my son to go on a cruise. Since we had to arrive a few days before our cruise starts, I thought it would be ideal to have a private tour guide to get more personalized service. I did research some other websites but I wanted a customized tour that would pick us up at our hotel and that I would able to communicate directly with the guide from the start. Ken responded quickly. He was also on time picking us up at our hotel and provided us with information about the places we visited. He was enthusiastic, communicative and had a very good command of the English language. He had lived in the US before. His verbal and written skills was exceptional. Our goal was to explore, eat and experience culture in Tokyo. We met with Ken on October 22, 2023. Prior to the tour, he listened to what we wanted to visit and asked about our level of fitness. I sent him a list of places we wanted to see. He also asked what we wanted eat for lunch, what our price range was, and if we had any allergies. When we informed him that we wanted seafood and that we were foodies, he researched and found a charming traditional style sushi restaurant that was unique for its history and food. It was in the Tsukiji outer market and owned by same family for 50 years. Ken told us the place was famous for its home-made sushi rice which was mixed with a secret red vinegar recipe then fermented with sake slowly giving it a unique nutty flavour. On top of that, he also managed to secure reservations for the 3 of us which was almost impossible since the place was quite small. So, we got seated right away. The food was delicious, and service was unique. The Master sushi chef served each of us personally. We also discussed a back-up plan with a few other places to visit in case we had to change the itinerary. Besides planning the itinerary, he also tested out the route beforehand to see how the timing was (our tour was for 9 hours) We wanted to visit the Skytree so he made inquiries to find out the best way to get tickets (eg online or in person). It was cheaper to buy online. When he noticed the online tickets were almost sold out, he quickly informed me so I okayed him to go ahead and buy them online for us in advance. I would reimburse him when we met up. My son and I are very pleased to be able to visit the Skytree. He navigated us through the subway system with confidence and brought maps and diagrams to better explain each place. We also rode the bus. We love travelling the way locals do. My son eventually got a bit tired of walking. When his leg started to bother him, Ken switched to having us take the elevators in the subway stations instead of taking the stairs. I was in better shape so had no problems. We walked about 24,000 steps that day (equivalent to 11 miles) ! Towards the end of our tour, we were running a little short of time. Luckily, we had a back up plan. Based on our current location, Ken gave us a few choices. We decided to visit an upper-class heritage home built in the 1920s (Kyu Asakura house). I liked historical architecture so this was something I wanted to see instead of shopping. When we were close to our hotel (we had asked Ken to escort us back), he took us to a store so I could get some ointment for my son's leg. Ken is a true gentleman, thoughtful and considerate with a good sense of humour. He was also patient and kind. For example, while we were going down a subway station, he noticed an elderly woman struggling to carry her luggage down the subway steps, so he helped carry it for her. Bonus: He also had a Go-Pro camera and created a wonderful video (2 parts) of our tour. He did all the editing (very professional), added music. We also permitted the videos to be publicly viewable as we wanted everyone to see what fun we had and what a good job he did filming and editing it. The videos were complimentary. He sent us a link to the videos a few days later which was pretty fast. These videos will keep us smiling for years and we are very grateful to him for doing that. We will miss him. If we visit Japan again, we will have him be our guide again. If you are travelling to Japan and want a tour guide for Tokyo, we highly recommend Ken. We are sure you will enjoy having him as your guide as much as we did. He also does tours outside of Tokyo, so please contact him. Faye L. (Vancouver, BC)

GoWithGuide is a great way to see highlights in a new city!
This is the first time I used GoWithGuide and will 100% use it again. Our guide Takako met us at our hotel and toured us around Tokyo via subway. Her expertise riding the subway was worth what we paid to get settled in Japan for 1st time travels. She showed us highlights and was open to our ideas of what to see as well. I am happy I found this service and would recommend it!

      Best Private Tour Ever!!
6 of us spent a day with Tomoko - she was sensational!! We had pre-arranged some things that we wanted to see & certainly would not have enjoyed any of them even half as much without Tomoko. The fish markets were an absolute high light because Tomoko bought us to the best stalls & helped us choose the most delicious morsels.

      Our best tour guide ever
We had the most amazing time with Tomoko! We spent 2 days with her, the first day in Tokyo and the second day in Hakone. This is a review of our Tokyo tour. She gave us a wonderful tour of Tokyo, with added history and cultural insights of Japanese people. We hit the major spots (Tokyo tower, sky tree, Hamarikyu garden, Tsukiji open market, Odaiba, rainbow bridge, Asakusa and Senso-ji-ji temple, Owl museum, Shibuya, etc). She is very organized but accommodated our requests on the fly. She is very personable and put us at ease the minute we met her. It was like touring with a very knowledgeable family friend. She was also very helpful in getting our Suica cards, understanding the transportation system and showing us how to get to certain places on our own after the tour as we ran out of time. She also made sure we had lots of memories of our trips with photos, maps, etc. Definitely the best tour guide ever

Saved our vacation plans from a typhoon
There are no enough superlatives in the English language to express our pleasure from working with such a professional company and their expert guides. Their business model is very different from other companies. They list guides for virtually every location in Japan where visitors wish to travel. They have tour guides available even in some of the remote and less visited places. They work great with cruise and hotel starting points. You contact Triple Lights and find a guide or guides available and start setting an itinerary with the places you want to visit. We found it best to have them recommend other sights of interest along with the ones we had on our Must See list. The English speaking guide meets you and arranges all the public transportation options you need. You pay the guide hourly rate to Triple Lights at the point of booking. You pay in Yen for all transportation and meals separately on the day you tour. Two guides, Michiru Azuma and Yuko S. deserve special recognition because of the way they salvaged a huge disruption in our trip plans. Our cruise ship was forced to miss some ports in Japan and then went to some scheduled ports on days we weren't scheduled. The captain was avoiding a typhoon. This required swapping guides and locations in a frantic attempt to recover part of our plan. Michiru Azuma and Yuko S. worked together to change dates and cities so that we were able to visit the most important places. Michiru sacrificed her guaranteed payment for us to have the new plan work. She authorized a refund from Triple Lights when we had signed up for a no refund arrangement. The two guides worked with the Tokyo support person, Hazuki Yamanaka, to get it straightened out and to our pleasant surprise Triple Lights demonstrated their honorable business practices, by rescheduling our dates and guides along with a full refund for tours lost to the storm. Triple Lights is 一番, Ichiban (number one). We cannot thank Michiru Azuma or Yuko S. enough for what they did with virtually no notice. We will not forget the message of Hiroshima or the hospitality extended to us. Domo Arigato.

      Well pleased with our guides
We were a group of four friends visiting Japan we did not want to do a large group tour so we booked tour guides for one day in each Tokyo Kyoto and Hiroshima for just our group. We were very pleased that we decided to do this the guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable and built itineraries to include all that we asked 😊

      5 Hour Layover Tour
We had a wonderful tour with Matin! He was extremely responsive leading up to the trip (including answering my last minute questions the night before) and met us right at our meeting point. We had a 9 hour layover in Tokyo and so we decided to try and see as much as could in that time period. We walked through some old temples, went to the fish market and had some Japanese sushi, walked through a Japanese garden, had some tea, and went to the top of one of the highest buildings in the city to see the skyline. It was perfect for what we wanted to see in our limited timeframe.

Source of Excellent Guides in Japan
We used TripleLights guides Mitsuro Higa in Tokyo/Hakone for 3 days and Richard in Kyoto/Nara for 3 days. We had an amazingly wonderful experience with both these terrific guides. TipleLights came to the rescue when our first guide in Kyoto became ill prior to our arrival. They came through without me having to do any extra work. They are an excellent, reliable and knowledgeable source of guide services in Japan. Mitsuro was terrific in his helping us acclimate to Tokyo and allowed us to visit areas of Tokyo not on the typical tour itinerary. He is friendly and fun-loving. Richard is an amazing guide and quite an interesting fellow with knowledge of Buddhism, shrines, Saki and Kyoto/Nara/Osaka that would normally require a variety of experts to fulfill. Don't let his American heritage fool you into thinking he is less than the perfect choice.

      What a Great Day
From the time I booked this guide with Triple Lights I had great response with Toshi. I had definite ideas of what I wanted see in Tokyo in just one day. He seemed to think maybe we couldn't do all of that in 8 1/2 hours. He met me at my capsule hostel and the first thing was getting my train ticket to go to Osaka a couple of days later so we did that at the Tokyo Station. Then it was getting my all day subway pass and off we went. We covered Senso-ji Temple and the market street there, the Fish Market for lots of sampling, a beef bowl lunch, The Giant Spider sculpture I wanted to see in Roppongi, The Imperial Palace Bridge, the beautiful walk in the forest to Meiji Shrine, Shibuya Crossing, the Dept Store basement and Gindaco for octopus balls. On and off the subway many times, Toshi was equal to my energy and we covered everything on my list. But the best part was all his knowledge about the culture and customs and his navigating skills around the city and his pleasing persona. Just a fabulous day. Thank you Toshi and Thank you Triple Lights for making this so easy.
