A weekend in gay-friendly Miami

For decades, Miami has been a hotspot for the LGBTQ+ community. It's one of our favorite queer-friendly destinations in the U.S., thanks to its beaches, architecture, and energy that goes into the night.
Two Bad Tourists, Madrid, Spain
  • Axel Beach Miami
    473
We stay at this gay hotel chain whenever we can and this newer opening has a garden bar, pool, and hot tub to enjoy.
  • Miami Beach Food and Art Deco Walking Tour
    236
A walk down Ocean Drive in South Beach is a must. We rightfully trusted a local guide to show us the good spots to eat as we learned about the area's history and architecture.
  • 12th Street Beach
    386
All the beaches in Miami Beach are gay-friendly, but this beach, at 12th St and Ocean Drive, is where you'll find the rainbow lifeguard tower. We just had to get a photos with it.
  • Palace Bar & Restaurant
    250
Each evening—and on Sundays for brunch—Palace Bar puts on a drag show on its terrace. The food and the entertainment were incredible.
  • Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
    7,212
We were surprised that this was one of the best sights we visited. The gardens, ornate rooms, and stunning waterfront views blew us away.
  • Hotel Gaythering
    681
Though we didn't stay at this gay hotel, the hotel bar is open to the public and the locals go for drinks, trivia, and other events. We went for drag bingo and had a great time, even if we didn't win.
  • Twist
    224
This is a great gay bar any night of the week. We showed up for two-for-one drinks and had fun chatting with the friendly bartender and locals.

3 days in Tokyo with kids in tow

With it's futuristic technology, love of anime and everything cutesy, and amazing food and culture, Tokyo is a great place to visit with kids. There are so many things to do that it's hard to fit it all into a weekend—but this is a great place to start.
  • MIMARU TOKYO GINZA EAST
    168
Hotel rooms in Japan are notoriously small but the Mimaru chain offers spacious family spaces. (The one in Ginza even has some Pokemon-themed rooms!)
  • Senso-ji Temple
    9,581
This is one of Tokyo's most beautiful and historic temples. Our kids loved giving a small donation for their fortunes—you keep the good ones but leave the bad so they won't come true.
  • Sushi Making Tokyo(Cooking Class in Asakusa)
    2,715
This class was another family fave. Our kids loved learning to make sushi and being able to recreate it once we got home.
  • Ueno Park
    5,331
This is a great place to let our kids burn off energy. There are playgrounds, cafes, a lake, gardens, and even a zoo in this big park. If the weather is nice, rent a swan paddle boat.
  • SAMURAI NINJA MUSEUM TOKYO With Experience
    794
This was an absolute highlight for our family. Our kids loved the museum, but even more fun was the ninja training where we learned to throw ninja stars, or shuriken, and shoot blow darts.
  • Nabezo Shibuya Koendori
    454
Shabu shabu—a Japanese-style hot pot where you cook your own meat, seafood, and veggies in broth—was great with our kids, who enjoyed getting to pick and choose what they wanted to cook.
  • Karaoke Rainbow Shibuya
    5
Karaoke is always a good idea, no matter your age. Rent a private room at this bar for some wholesome fun that your family will never forget. Go before 7 p.m. for cheaper prices.
