Nikita is the best

I’m a shy flier and was sat in the front, i was helped with putting my bags in the overhead locker and Nikita was super friendly and chatty throughout the flight. She always had a smile on her face and she definitely deserves praise. I love flying with Air New Zealand because i know i can rely on their amazing service and reliability ☺️

Online check-in was a disaster

My partner and I had no problems with the online check-in flying from Perth to Auckland but it was a different story on the return flight.
We checked in online 23 hours prior to our departure and made our seat selection. The website only allowed selection for one of us, which was in row 43. It would not allow seat selection for my partner and instead allocated a seat for her in row 68.
I called the airline directly and after explaining the problem was told my partner could not do a seat selection as she had a lower grade of booking. This was false as I booked both seats at the same time, paying the same price for both. Also we had no problem on the outgoing flight. We were also told no other seats were available.
Several hours later I called again and was told they fixed this, had allocated us seats together and would send an updated email. This never arrived and after rechecking our seat allocation we found it had not been changed. We were puzzled as to why the customer service person lied to us.
I called again and was again told this was fixed but when I checked the booking I was dismayed to find all they had done was move me from my allocated aisle seat to a “middle” seat.
After this experience we will never again fly with New Zealand Airlines.

Thank goodness for flexi travel options

Travelling short notice due to a sudden illness and then bereavement I was truly thankful for Air New Zealand's flexible ticketing options. Typically I buy the cheapest flight, but deciding on the most flexible ticket offering last-minute changes with no extra cost (flight time-dependent), I was appreciative. I was able to change my flights twice due to changing circumstances.

Good food, uncomfortable seat.

After being stuffed around by Qantas I cancelled my flights with them and changed to Air New Zealand flying business class.
The service was friendly. The food was excellent.
Unfortunately the plane seemed rather dated. The seats are in a herring bone pattern. This can either be viewed as providing solitude or like being in solitary confinement. The seat was surprisingly uncomfortable. It seemed very narrow though there was plenty of leg room. Even though I was in a window seat I wasn’t able to get much of a view out as the seat is placed some distance from the two windows.Absurdly the only way to watch the safety briefing was to use a swing out tv screen that was supposed to be stowed for taxiing and take off. The high seat surrounds made it impossible to see the live demonstration. Headsets were provided but had to be plugged into a socket inside a cupboard that was very awkward to access when sitting. I just gave up. Some of the control buttons, such as the overhead light didn’t work.
The lounge at Brisbane was a bit cramped and disappointing, but the Auckland lounge on my return journey was very pleasant.

Disappointed this time.
Sydney - AucklandTrans-Tasman
Our flight yesterday was the first time we have been disappointed in Air New Zealand Business Class. We flew on March 3rd 2025 and the plane hadn't updated their new release's with their Entertainment, it was the exactly the same as February on the way over to Sydney. Then their welcome drink of Champagne had such a small amount in the glass which is a joke compared to Emirates or Singapore Airlines Business Class. In the past the crew have asked what pre dinner drink you would like and bring it along with some nice nuts, that didn't happen. Lunch was very average. We were not offered dessert so had to ask for it then the hostess forgot my wife's. The crew were very lack lustre in their service apart from one girl named Angnes. Hopefully this was just a one off otherwise they will loose our loyalty of a Gold Elite member and we will fly Emirates or Singapore in the future.

If you have neck, back/ hip issues, don’t fly with this air line. If you do fly with them, avoid economy and the sky couch.

I listed a vegan choice. There were far better meals available on the in-flight menu, but these weren't available to me (vegan) in business.
